Not too long ago, I was doing some research about feminine care brands and how most products that we stick up/in/around our lady parts aren’t regulated by the FDA. I've been using organic tampons ever since, but the whole situation got me thinking... What else am I putting in and on my body that has an ingredient list not regulated by the FDA?
Those of you who know me are aware that my skin is constantly breaking out and constantly making me frustrated, leaving my self confidence a little shot! I had heard of non-toxic makeup before, but hadn't seriously considered it until I realized just how little regulation the cosmetic industry really has.
Do I think wearing MAC foundation will kill me or give me cancer? No. Does it break me out and make my skin itchy as heck? Definitely.
I scoured the web to find non-toxic beauty brands, connected with friends who I knew were toxin-free, and ordered enough samples of foundations, powders, highlighters, lipsticks, and mascaras to last me TWO MONTHS!
Here are a few of my favorite brands and products I’ve been using (and fully intend to use from here on out.)
GRESSA
Stemming from traditional herbalism, GRESSA’s products include apothecary items and skincare cosmetics. I love the brand because the pigments are rich and their foundation offers amazing coverage. They also send you samples of their foundation before you buy, so you can match color perfectly.
Favorite products: MINIMALIST Corrective Serum Foundation, Lip Boost
W3llpeople
One of the most well-known toxin-free makeup brands, W3LL PEOPLE offers nutrient-rich, quality cosmetics. I consider their brand to be like the Glossier of the toxin-free makeup world, since their products are great for that “no-makeup” look. I also love that you can buy select products in minis!
Favorite products: Bio Tint Multi-Action Moisturizer, Bio Correct Multi-Action Concealer, Natural Contour and Highlight Duo
Beautycounter
This awesome brand not only has great makeup, but SERIOUSLY AWESOME skincare products. Within a month of using their No. 3 Balancing Facial Oil, I was getting plenty of compliments on my (usually) troubled skin. What I love most about Beautycounter, though, is the company’s dedication to education and change within the cosmetic industry. If you’re looking to make a little extra cash, you can become a consultant for them as well!
Favorite products: Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation, Ultimate Nude Eyeshadow Palette, Sheer Lipstick
While I'm not opposed to the occasional liquid foundation and false eyelash combo, I've found it best for my skin if I stick to a light makeup routine for everyday purposes. Nothing feels better than easily wiping makeup off at the end of the day and knowing you aren't clogging your pores with a ton of junk that doesn't need to be on your face!
